The championship game is set for Sunday.

Team USA swept through the preliminary round, beating the four other members of Group A by a total of 33-7.

It then beat Switzerland 4-0 in the quarterfinals.

James Hagens, who is having a remarkable series, recorded two goals and an assist and Nick Kempf stopped 17 shots in the win. It was Kempf’s fourth tourney win.

Both netminders were sharp to begin the contest. Kempf turned aside seven shots in the opening frame while Switzerland’s Christian Kirsch made a dozen stops. It was the first time the United States was shut out in the first period of any game in this tournament.

Team USA finally connected at 7:11 of the second during 4-on-4 action. After a Swiss neutral-zone turnover, Brodie Ziemer came up with the loose puck to begin a 2-on-1 break. He drew the defender and slid to Hagens, who finished at the left hashes for a 1-0 U.S. lead.

Christian Humphreys doubled the U.S. with a little less than five minutes to play in the middle frame, scoring his third goal of the tournament. Ziemer also scored in the second period and Hagens scored his second goal midway through the third.

Hagens leads the tournament with 21 points in five games.

The U.S. beat Slovakia 9-0 on April 25 in a preliminary-round game.

Hagens finished with two goals and two assists and Kempf stopped 24 shots to earn the shutout.
