Luminous Manufacturing and Distribution became the latest sponsor to support the Petra Organization coordinated ‘MVP Sports Futsal Championship’, donating two model 1146 (46cc) motorcycles yesterday during a simple presentation ceremony held at the entity’s North Road head office.

The two motorcycles will be awarded to the event’s Most Valuable Player and a lucky patron following a raffle on the night of the final, which is penciled for December 10th.

Proprietor of the establishment Eron Baptiste stated that the company is proud to donate the motorcycles to the Petra Organization for the tournament.

Meanwhile, Co-Director of the Petra Organization Troy Mendonca stated that the tournament is for the players and people and this is evident by the donation by Luminous, adding, “One will be for the MVP and the other will be for a lucky patron at the final. On behalf of the Petra Organization, we would like to thank Luminous for this donation in such a timely manner and rest assured that the two winners will greatly appreciate the contribution.”

He further stated that the tournament was halted due to the recently concluded Inter-Guiana Games but will resume on Saturday with the semi-final round, adding that riveting action is anticipated as the tournament reaches its eventual climax.

The tournament is scheduled to continue on Saturday at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue with the semi-final section. In the men’s division, Future Stars will lock horns with Stabroek Ballers, while the feature contest will pit Gold is Money against Bent Street.

Meanwhile, in the women’s pool, Fruta Conquerors will oppose GT Panthers in the first semi-final. This will be followed by the Guyana Police Force battling Tiger Bay. The winners will advance to the championship fixture, with the losers competing in the third-place playoff.

The first prize in the men’s tournament is $500,000 with $300,000, $200,000, and $100,000 for the second, third and fourth-placed finishers respectively along with the corresponding accolades. The women’s first prize is $200,000 with $100,000, $50,000, and $20,000 respectively for the next three finishers. The other sponsors of the event include Magnum Tonic Wine and Lucozade Energy Drink.
