AUSTIN, Texas: Ahead of its quarterly results on April 30, when CEO Elon Musk is expected to announce the electric vehicle (EV) maker's strategy, Tesla said it will make 6,020 employees in Texas and California redundant.

More than 10 percent cut in its global workforce is under pressure from declining sales and an ongoing price war between rival EV makers, Tesla said.

However, it did not indicate the number of staff that would be affected by the redundancies.

Some numbers were disclosed in notices to the states of Texas and California under a U.S. labor law that requires companies with 100 or more employees to notify about planned closings or mass layoffs 60 days in advance.

The notices showed that Tesla would cut 3,332 jobs in California and another 2,688 in Texas from June 14.

In a post of X, Musk said, "Tesla has now created over 30,000 manufacturing jobs in California!"

Shares of the Austin, Texas-based EV maker were up about two percent ahead of the company's first-quarter results, which are due after markets on April 30.

The job cuts in Texas represent 12 percent of the automaker's total workforce of 22,777 in the greater Austin area, where its gigafactory and headquarters are located.

Tesla's international job cuts will include 285 employees at its Buffalo, New York premises.

The company's filings with U.S. regulators showed that its headcount was more than 140,000 late last year, up from around 100,000 at the end of 2021.
