Uzbekistan exported nearly $2.9 billion worth of textile products last year, accounting for 10.6 per cent of the country's total exports, official statistics show.

Cotton yarn remained the largest export category, bringing in $1.237 billion. Readymade textile products followed closely, with exports totaling $1.124 billion. Knitted fabrics contributed $292.1 million, while fabric exports reached $145.9 million.

Exports of socks and hosiery were worth $42.6 million last year, while hoodies generated $42.6 million in export revenue, domestic media outlets reported.

A decree by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to strengthen processing chains in the textile, garment and knitwear industries aimed at boosting the sector’s economic contribution, setting targets of $5 billion in exports by 2026 and $7 billion by 2027, with finished products accounting for 70 per cent of the total.

A substantial portion of this growth was expected to come from exports to Europe and the United States, which were projected to generate at least $500 million.

Over the next three years, $5 billion in investment has been planned for yarn processing. The strategy also included reallocating duties on yarn and fabric exports to the Fund for Support of Industries, which would provide commercial banks with resources to issue foreign currency loans, allowing entrepreneurs to purchase equipment for fabric and finished product manufacturing.
