A new managing director has been appointed at a Yarnton company and a firm in its group has secured contracts with three global manufacturers.

Oxford Metrics, a smart sensing and software company, has announced the contracts with three contact lens manufacturers are valued at around £1.6 million.

All three have been secured by Industrial Vision Systems, owned by Oxford Metrics. Two of them are with existing customers while the third is a new customer.

Industrial Vision Systems will provide non-contact inspection systems to the manufacturers, allowing them to automatically detect lens defects, errors, and other irregularities.

Oxford Metrics has also appointed Dr Simon Gunter as managing director of its smart manufacturing division.

Dr Gunter, who has held a number of executive board positions, as well as senior leadership positions at companies including Tiscali, Pirelli, and 360networks, has a track record of growing early-stage technology businesses.

Imogen O’Connor, CEO of Oxford Metrics, said: "Having established our presence in the smart manufacturing market, Simon, our new smart manufacturing managing director, brings a great deal of experience and will be a fantastic addition to the team as we work together to help build and capture more of this growth market.

"I am also pleased to announce the recent contract wins; as demand for machine vision inspection continues to grow, manufacturers are increasingly turning to Industrial Vision Systems’ technology to automate complex visual tasks, detect defects, and ensure quality products."
