BYD to set up EV manufacturing plant in India

The new EV factory will have an annual production capacity of 6,00,000 units by 2032.

Hyderabad could soon become a hub for electric vehicle manufacturing. According to media reports, Chinese EV maker BYD plans to set up a manufacturing unit in India with an investment of Rs 85,000 crore.

Reports suggest that BYD had been scouting for land in the state of Telangana and might have zeroed in on Hyderabad for its next EV plant.

BYD’s first manufacturing facility in India is expected to be spread over 500 acres and will have an annual production capacity of 6,00,000 units by 2032. It will also include a battery production unit with a capacity of 20 GWh.

BYD’s India plans have come to light at a time when US-based EV maker Tesla is looking to make inroads into the Indian market.
