Nevertheless, because of policy issues and inadequate infrastructure, natural gas usage is still low in many African countries despite enormous reserves.

There are serious social, environmental, and economic repercussions to this low-level consumption of natural gas.

Low natural gas usage might stifle industrial and economic progress.

Many sectors, including manufacturing, electricity generation, and petrochemicals, rely on natural gas as an efficient and cost-effective energy source.

Without adequate utilization, firms may suffer increased operating expenses as a result of reliance on more expensive and inefficient energy sources, lowering competitiveness and economic output.

Natural gas is critical to long-term energy security. Countries with limited natural gas use frequently experience power shortages, high electricity bills, and unstable energy supply.

This may stifle industry, delay economic growth, and make daily living more difficult for companies and families.

Countries typically turn to harsher energy sources like coal, firewood, and diesel when natural gas use is low.

These substitutes exacerbate climate change and public health problems by causing deforestation, increased carbon emissions, and extreme air pollution.

Many homes continue to cook using traditional biomass fuels like firewood and charcoal due to low natural gas use. In addition to causing deforestation, indoor air pollution causes major health hazards.

Fertilizers, chemicals, and heavy manufacturing are examples of industries that may find it difficult to function effectively in a nation with low natural gas usage.
